Management Team
The EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! (EGR) Management Team Members have successful classroom experience in teaching: Secondary -- grades 7-12; and Post-secondary -- business/technical college, adult education, community college, and on the university level (teaching undergraduate and graduate courses). The EGR Management Team members have received awards and have been recognized for their outstanding leadership and curriculum development by their peers, administration, and the business community on the local, state, and national level.
GLORIA HENDERSON, M.Ed.
Gloria hails from a Norwegian small town community in the state of Wisconsin, moved to California in her teens, and enjoys spending time with her family. During her 28-year teaching career in Colorado, Gloria has taught numerous business courses (accounting, business finance, keyboarding, business law, computers, entrepreneurship, etc.), and she has taught post-secondary accounting courses. Beginning in 1986, Gloria taught an interdisciplinary course between business and economics offering high school seniors an entrepreneurial approach to their required economics course. Gloria facilitated over 40 student business enterprises within the classes whereby students organized, operated, and liquidated a student company offering them a “real world” approach to learning.
For her work in economics, Gloria earned the 1992 Junior Achievement Applied Economics Teacher of the Year for the State of Colorado, and received the second place award in the nation. Again, Gloria was nominated for the National Junior Achievement Teacher of the Year Award in Economics in 2000. She served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement – Rocky Mountain, Inc. from 1995-1998. In addition, she was a recognized leader by the Denver Business Journal and Office Depot. Gloria’s students participated in numerous Junior Achievement sponsored business activities, such as: Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999, Dinah Shore Golf Classic, Colorado Business Hall of Fame, Denver Distinguished Lecture Series, JA Student Ambassador Program, International Student Exchange (Mexico City), Job Shadow Day, the Denver Rapids Marketing Research Program, Boo-A-Thon Fundraising, Calling for Kids, etc.
Together with Karen Stark, Gloria designed, developed, and taught an interdisciplinary senior-level capstone entrepreneurial course for seniors called MBA Enterprises. The course was designed to bring students together by utilizing their acquired knowledge from previous courses (marketing, accounting, desktop publishing, economics, etc.). The students then applied their experiences by creating, operating, and liquidating several business profit centers within this year-long business course. Gloria’s entrepreneurial spirit led to ownership in a legal services and identity theft protection business with her husband, Steve. She co-authored MBA: Get Real!!! Part I, and MBA: Get Real!!! Part II, resource manuals for teachers. Gloria recently co-authored a student version “12 Keys" to Success for the Budding Entrepreneur for StyleOwner in New York City. Gloria received her Bachelors of Science degree in Business Teacher Education from the University of Nebraska, where she also double majored in Economics. She received a M.Ed. in Technology in Education from Lesley University, Boston, MA. Gloria is the EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! LLC Chief Financial Officer, a business partner, and a teacher trainer.
KAREN STARK, M.Ed.
Karen is a farm girl, born and raised in northeastern Colorado, and enjoys her family and working with other teachers. Karen taught various secondary Business courses, Computer Science, and English/Language Arts courses during her 31 years of teaching. She team-taught multiple interdisciplinary English/Business, Marketing/Business, Computer Science/Business, and Journalism/Business classes for 15+ years. Karen wrote numerous Business and English grants seeking funds and technology hardware for students, supervised OJT (On-the-Job Training) students, and she worked closely with countless business community advisory councils and civic groups to gain their support for her Business and English programs. She created several different vocational advisory committees (who funded scholarships for business students and validated the curriculum), and she helped organize student/business networking partnerships. She launched 25+ student managed/operated entrepreneurial businesses for students, and she supervised many student teachers.
Karen established student/business community alliances for her entrepreneurial students, and she organized and completed three student exchanges: two international exchanges with with Belfast, Northern Ireland, and one national exchange with New Orleans, LA. During her years as a classroom teacher, she served as the school store sponsor, FBLA adviser (20+ years), and was the business department chairperson (20+ years). Karen was nominated six times and selected “Teacher of the Year” by her peers in four secondary schools, received two “Renaissance Teacher of the Month” awards for her involvement in an all-school student achievement excellence program, and she has been honored by receiving numerous Outstanding Service and Commendation Awards and Acknowledgements for her service to education and the business community.
Karen authored two EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! instructional resource manuals for teachers: The Art of Selling Yourself: Get Real!!! and Getting Technical (Writing): Get Real!!! and she co-authored four additional resource manuals: MBA: Get Real!!! Part I, MBA: Get Real!!! Part II, Colorful Communication: Get Real!!!, and No Nonsense Research: Get Real!!! Karen recently co-authored a student version “12 Keys” to Success for the Budding Entrepreneur for StyleOwner in New York City. Karen earned her undergraduate degree in Business Education (minored in English) from the University of Northern Colorado, received a M.Ed. in Technology in Education from Lesley University, Boston, MA, and retains a Colorado State vocational credential. She is the desktop publisher for all manuals produced for EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! Karen is the EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! LLC Chief Executive Officer, a business partner, and a teacher trainer.
TERESA YOHON, Ph.D.
Teresa was born and raised in Georgia, moved to Kansas as a teenager, and she loves to travel. Teresa has been involved in business and marketing education for over 30 years. As a teacher for 18 years, she taught a variety of classes at the secondary and post-secondary levels including computer applications, web design, marketing research, entrepreneurship, accounting, supervision, and leadership. At the post-secondary level, she was a Delta Epsilon Chi advisor at two community colleges. As a DECA advisor, she had over 25 state officers, ran two national officer campaigns, and had numerous national winners, particularly in advertising, marketing research, and fashion merchandising.
The national Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) honored Teresa by recognizing her as one of the top five career and technical education teachers in the United States in 1996. In 1998, Teresa came to Colorado State University (CSU) as a business and marketing teacher educator. There she taught assessment, technology integration, teaching methodologies, standards development, and online teaching and instruction. This job was her dream – working with teachers to develop meaningful curriculum to teach both academics and career and technical education content.
While a teacher educator, Teresa brought over $1.7 million in grant monies to CSU for technology integration training, online course development, online mentoring, and data assessment instruction. After her time as a teacher educator, she was the Program Director for Business and Marketing Education for Colorado. Today she is part-time at CSU, teaching Information Design and conducting web site usability research. Her other part-time jobs are working with EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! LLC (getting back to the dream job) and managing her own company, Education and Training Connections (ETC).
Teresa believes in being professionally involved. She is the past president of Colorado Association of Career and Technical Education (CACTE) and Kansas Vocational Association. She has been the president of the Business Education divisions of these organizations in both Colorado and Kansas. Teresa serves as the current president of the Marketing Education Foundation. She contributes regularly to business education publications, including the NABTE Review and various National Business Education Association yearbooks. She has also presented at over 30 conferences in the last ten years.
Teresa has earned the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Education from Emporia State University, Emporia, KS; Master of Science in Management from Friends University, Wichita, KS; Master of Science in Counseling from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS; and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education – Community and Human Resources, with a Specialization in Career Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE. Teresa is the EDUCATION: GET REAL!!! LLC Director of Marketing and business associate.
